  • There are EIGHT questions divided in TWO SECTIONS and printed both in HINDI and in ENGLISH.
  • Candidate has to attempt FIVE questions in all.
  • Questions no. 1 and 5 are compulsory and out of the remaining, any THREE are to be attempted choosing at least ONE question from each section.
  • The number of marks carried by a question / part is indicated against it.
  • Answers must be written in the medium authorized in the Admission Certificate which must be stated clearly on the cover of this Question-cum-Answer (QCA) Booklet in the space provided.
  • No marks will be given for answers written in a medium other than the authorized one.
  • Word limit in questions, wherever specified, should be adhered to.
  • Attempts of questions shall be counted in sequential order.
  • Unless struck off, attempt of a question shall be counted even if attempted partly.
  • Any page or portion of the page left blank in the Question-cum-Answer Booklet must be clearly struck off.

Q1. Critically examine the following statements in about 150 words each:

(a) “महाराजा रणजीत सिंह की मृत्यु सन् 1839 में हुई थी । उनकी मृत्यु पूरे पंजाब के लिए अराजकता के विस्फोट का संकेत था ।"
"Maharaja Ranjit Singh died in 1839. His death was the signal for an outburst of anarchy all over the Punjab."

(b) “अपने प्रारम्भिक चरणों में जब भारतीय राष्ट्रवाद अपरिपक्व था तथा अभी-अभी अंकुरित मात्र ही था, इसने अपनी अभिव्यक्ति अनेकों उदार धार्मिक-सुधार आन्दोलनों से प्राप्त की ।"
"In the initial stages, when Indian nationalism was immature, just sprouting, it found expression in many liberal religio-reform movements."

(c) “20वीं शताब्दी के प्रारम्भ में अनेकों स्त्री संगठन अस्तित्व में आए जिन्होंने जन क्षेत्र में बहुत सक्रियता से कार्य किया तथा अपना ध्यान अधिक प्रत्यक्षता से स्त्रियों के राजनीतिक तथा कानूनी अधिकारों पर केन्द्रित किया ।"
"In the early twentieth century, there came into existence a number of women's organisations, which operated more actively in the public arena and focused more directly on women's political and legal rights."

(d) “भारत में ट्रेड यूनियन आन्दोलन ने महत्त्वपूर्ण पड़ावों पर न केवल राष्ट्रीय संघर्ष के आह्वान का समर्थन किया वरन् अनेक मार्गों से इसके विषय तथा स्वरूप को भी प्रभावित किया ।"
"The Trade Union Movement in India not only supported the call for national struggle at critical junctures, but also impacted its course and character in several ways."

(e) “भारतीय नेताओं से अपने वार्तालाप तथा अपने मत के आधार पर लॉर्ड माउण्टबैटन शीघ्र इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुँचे कि विभाजन ही एकमात्र व्यावहारिक तथा यथोचित समाधान था ।"
"Based on his discussion with Indian leaders, as well as his own perception, Lord Mountbatten soon came to the conclusion that partition was the only practicable and feasible solution."
