Q2. निम्नलिखित गद्यांश को ध्यानपूर्वक पढ़िए और उसके आधार पर नीचे दिए गए प्रश्नों के उत्तर स्पष्ट, सही और संक्षिप्त भाषा में दीजिए:
(a) संसार का ध्यान गाँधी जी की ओर इसलिए आकृष्ट हुआ कि उन्होंने पशु-बल के समक्ष आत्म-बल का शस्त्र निकाला, तोपों और मशीन-गर्नो का सामना करने के लिए अहिंसा का आश्रय लिया । किन्तु सोचने की बात यह है कि अहिंसा का आश्रय उन्होंने क्यों लिया ? क्या इसलिए कि अंग्रेज़ों के विरुद्ध हिंसा का आश्रय लेकर वे भारत को स्वाधीन नहीं कर सकते थे ? अथवा इसलिए कि मानव-समाज को वे यह शिक्षा देना चाहते थे कि मनुष्य जब तक पाशविक साधनों का प्रयोग करने को बाध्य है, तब तक वह पूरा मनुष्य कहलाने का अधिकारी नहीं हो सकता ? पहली बात अहिंसा को कमज़ोर एवं निरुपाय व्यक्ति का साधन बताती है, जिसका अर्थ यह होता है कि तोपें जब हमारे पास नहीं हैं, तब सत्याग्रह ही सही । किन्तु दूसरी बात अहिंसा को मनुष्य के विकास का साधन बनाती है; उसके रूप को निर्मल बनाने का उपाय सिद्ध करती है ।
(b) यह सच है कि गाँधी जी के नेतृत्व में जब भारतवासी ब्रिटेन से संघर्ष कर रहे थे, तब उनमें से अधिकांश का यही भाव था कि अहिंसा साधन भर है, जिसको अवलंब हमने इसलिए लिया है कि हिंसक साधनों से अंग्रेज़ों का सामना करने की हमें सुविधा और सुयोग नहीं है । किन्तु स्वयं गाँधी जी इस विचार को नहीं मानते थे । अहिंसा को गँवाकर वे भारत को स्वाधीन करने के पक्षपाती नहीं थे । भारतीय स्वाधीनता बहुत बड़ा लक्ष्य थी, उससे भी बड़ा ध्येय मानव-स्वभाव में परिवर्तन लाना था, मनुष्य को यह विश्वास दिलाना था कि जिन ध्येयों की प्राप्ति के लिए वह पाशविक साधनों का सहारा लेता है, वे ध्येय मानव-मूल्यों से भी प्राप्त किए जा सकते हैं।
(c) गाँधी जी का मुख्य उद्देश्य न केवल अपने देशवासियों के कष्टों का निवारण, प्रत्युत मनुष्य के पाशवीकरण का अवरोध भी था । घृणा, क्रोध और आवेग, ये पशुओं को ही होते हैं और वे भी अपने प्रतिपक्षी का सामना उन शस्त्रों से करते हैं । लेकिन मनुष्य पशु से भिन्न है, अतएव उचित है कि वह अपने आवेगों पर नियंत्रण लगाए और अपने दैनिक जीवन की समस्याओं के सुलझाने में उन उपायों से काम ले, जो पशुओं के लिए दुर्लभ, किन्तु मनुष्य के लिए सुलभ हैं । प्रश्न उठता है कि गाँधी जी ने ऐसा निश्चय क्यों किया ? और अहिंसा का यह प्रयोग किसी अन्य देश में आरंभ न
